Art can heal. It reminds us of the beauty in the world, and that’s a wonderful thing to remember.
Stephen Sondheim’s song “Move On” from Sunday in the Park with George has always resonated with me. In fact, I cross-stitched some of the lyrics a while back; I keep the frame near my front door.
Stop worrying where you’re going; move on.
If you can know where you’re going, you’ve gone.
Just keep moving on.
Look at what you want,
not at where you are,
not at what you’ll be…
Today I don’t mean “move on” in the sense of “get over it.” I mean it as a reminder (to me, if no one else) that life continues. And we can’t know for certain where we’ll end up. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. And listen to the pretty song.
